Last month, I received a review of my book review from my friend and he wanted some writing tips for a book review. Here are some tips:

  1. Make notes when you finish reading of a chapter.

It is the most convenient way to organise your idea as authors used the same way to organise their idea when they are writing books. By this way, you can follow the logic of authors.

2. When you get stuck, leave and do some other stuffs (e.g. sport)

Sometimes, you have no idea what you want to write. However, it is not wise to keep spending time on the currently unsolvable issues All you need to do is taking a rest to clean your mind. Afterward, the previously unsolvable problems will suddenly become solvable.

3. Organise your ideas

Writing is very similar to coding which requires our statements to be precise, organised and purposeful because writers/programmers are not the only target audiences of their own writings/codes. It is very essential to organise your ideas in your writings/codes because you have to make sure that readers are able to follow your logic. To organise your ideas, it is a good way to “modularise” it. First, define a theme for your writing. Second, decide the purpose of your paragraphs (e.g. main points, explanation or example). Third, discard unnecessary paragraphs since they are not related to your theme and consider the best combination and sequence of these paragraphs.
